Bulletin Board

Hi All,

Welcome to the Midwood Street Reunion bulletin board. Just like a real bulletin board this a place where anyone can post or respond to a message. In order to participate you will need to create a username. I would suggest you use your real name since that will make it easy for everyone to quickly identify who is posting. To register you just click on the Register link in the upper right hand corner. Fill in your name, select a password, type in the letters in the box then scroll down to the bottom and select submit. You can ignore all the technical stuff in the middle. I have created a few topics to get us started but please feel free to let me know if you have any new ideas. As always if there are any questions just send me a note.

Never Before Seen Video Footage...

Hi Everyone,

This is Steve Lewis. I was looking through all the Midwood Street pictures on the reunion website and it made me think about the great times growing up with all of you. To do it justice, I put together a little video about growing up at the Co-op. So, we'll see you all at the reunion in a few weeks. My beautiful wife Stacey, myself and my mother will be flying in from Henderson, NV. Can't wait to see you all.

Just click on the link below to view the video

Dubrow's Cafeteria

Hi All,

I just received an email from Marcia Brickman Halperin who is working on a documentary about Dubrow's. If you have any old photo's or stories please send her a note at: dubrowshistory@gmail.com

Here is a copy of her request:

While researching the Dubrow's Cafeteria that was located on Eastern Parkway and Utica Avenue I happened upon your blog and upcoming reunion.
I am looking for old photographs and stories associated with that cafeteria and the neighborhood. I am currently working on a documentary film about NYC cafeterias with a focus on the Dubrow's chain in particular.
Perhaps you can post about this on your blog and mention this at your reunion.
Thanks
Marcia Bricker Halperin

See you in September!

Hi All,

I just wanted to update everyone on where things stand. The reunion is a go!!

Even though we haven't reached 100 yet, Larry was able to work a deal with the caterers and we are all set. As of today there are 81 paid up and several more emails indicating the check is in the mail.

Everyone is still welcome to join us and I encourage all the attendees to make some calls to get friends and family who haven't signed up yet to do so.

I can't wait to see everyone in September.

Thanks,
Steve

As Jeff so aptly put it "Come on Guys and Gals just do it".

Let's Make It Happen

I forgot to mention in the email that its scheduled for Saturday Sept 8th from 6PM to 11PM

Hi All,

Lisa and Larry have done a great job of finding a place for the reunion. It is not in a hotel but it is affiliated with a hotel and free shuttle service is available. We will have a full menu selection and open bar and the price is just $65 per person. Additionally we have reserved a block of hotel rooms for just $79 + tax/ night. What a deal! Now it’s up to all of you. In order to finalize the contract we need to have at least 100 people paid in full by the end of June. So please do not hesitate, pull out the checkbook and make it happen.
Make sure to remind all your brothers and sisters, friends and parents are welcome as well. This is truly a case of the more the merrier.

Hotel : www.holiday-inn.com/hiedisonnj
If you want to join in please send me a check ASAP for $65 per person to:

Mark Your Calendars--September 8th 2007

Hi All,

No single date is going to work for everyone but based on the feedback it looks like September 8th will be the date of the reunion. Now comes the hard part which is to find a place and put down a deposit and collect the money. I will be traveling for work until the end of the month and once I return I will try to finalize the rest of this as quickly as possible.

Wednesday, May 02, 2007

Mark your calendars...

OK, we've got a bunch of names and I'm still working on digging up some more but its time to set a date and a place. In order to keep things simple I've worked out two possible dates Sept 8 or Sept 29. Based on the feedback to these two dates I will be settling on one within the next week so now is your chance to speak up.

As far as the location, it will be in the New York/New Jersey area. Lisa Hollander and Larry Zaback are currently researching several possible locations. Thanks to both of them for all their help.

CSI -- The Co-op

Hi All,

I've posted a few photos of some of the "grown-ups", that's what I called them back in the day. I know who some of them are but not all of them. I'm sure someone out there can name them all. Feel free to submit your answers in the comments section or send me an email.

The List.. Take 2

Hi All,

I guess the way I posted the list was causing some confusion. The link has been updated with some new names and it no longer requires zooming.

The List So Far...

Okay the postcards seem to have been reasonably successful. I sent close to 200 heard from a bunch of people got about 40 back as bad addresses and about a 100 or so are out there somewhere. I've posted a new link to the right called The List (you can use the zoom icon to expand and scroll through the names). This is the list of valid email addresses I've collected so far, just under 100. There are lots of names on there where I have one family member but not another so I know we can easily add another couple of dozen names. So now is the time to send in the contact info for your brothers and sisters. Also if you have been reading the blog but haven't sent me an email please do so so I can add your name.

Thanks to everyone who has written with words of encouragement.

In Search Of....

I'm sure there are some old friends out there that you would love to track down. I'm trying to find Steven Lewis but so far no luck. Other people have mentioned Jerry Bader who lived on Brooklyn Ave and Monica Solomon. Anybody have any info on these folks? Is there anyone you are looking for?

Tuesday, March 20, 2007

Who was Harry Silver?

Eddie Franklin posed the question and I don't have a good answer for him. Does anyone know more about him? Was he the Donald Trump of his day?

Eddie also threw out the following word associations that bring back the old days for him: Mario, Cliff, B46, Wetson's, White Castle, Lee-Arn Diner, Floridian, Amitybagel, Big Daddy's, Tastee Freeze, milk machine, 1965 blackout, 1966transit strike, 1969 teachers strike, skelly, ringolivio, pinochle, mahjong, Dr. Lessner.

I would add to that Cheap Charlie's, Little Venice and "the Pit". What word's bring you back to those good old days?

Photos of People?

I have created a new album for photos of people and the original album will be for places. This new set includes some Bar Mitzvah photos and I know that there are many more out there. If you have old photos just scan them in and email them to me I will be glad to post them.

New Photos

It seems like a lot of us when we get the chance take a ride by the old neighborhood. I've posted some new photos which Bonnie Bergstein (Ratner) sent along. If anyone else has some photos they would like to share just send them along.

Back in Action

Okay, I really don't have any good excuse why this has dragged on so long but I'm back in action. This weekend I sent out about 200 postcards the old fashioned way. These are addresses I accumulated from a bunch of places, the old reunion list, emails from people and Internet searches. I'm hoping this will reach some of the folks I haven't been able to find up till now. Within a few weeks I should know what sort of response it has generated and then I'll send out an email to the updated list and see if we can make this happen.
